Reheating furnace in steel plant

In steel plants reheating furnaces are used in hot rolling mills to heat the steel stock (Billets, blooms or slabs) to temperatures of around 1200 deg C which is suitable for plastic deformation of steel and hence for rolling in the mill. The heating process in a reheating furnace is a continuous process where the steel stock is charged at the furnace entrance, heated in the furnace and discharge at the furnace exit. Heat is transferred to the steel stock during its traverse through the furnace mainly by means of convection and radiation from the burner gases and the furnace walls.

The charging temperature of the steel stock may range from ambient temperature to 800 deg C. The target exit temperature of the steel stock is governed by the requirement of the process of rolling which is dependent on the rolling speed, stock dimension and steel composition. Steel quality aspects put constraints on temperature gradient and surface temperature. Fuel used in these furnaces can be liquid or gaseous fuel.

The reheating furnace classification can be done in several ways. These are described below.
1. Based on the method of heating a reheating furnace can be combustion type or electric type. The combustion type furnace can be oil fired or gas fired.
2. Based on method of charging reheating furnaces can be classified as batch type or continuous type. In batch furnaces the charged material remains in a fixed position on the hearth until heated to rolling temperature while in continuous furnaces the charged material moves through the furnace and is heated to rolling temperature as it progresses through the furnace.
3. Continuous furnaces can be further classified based on the movement of steel stock inside the furnace. Based on this classification the continuous type reheating furnaces are pusher type, rotary hearth type, walking beam type, walking hearth type or roller hearth type.
4. Based on heat recovery, the reheating furnace can be either regenerative or recuperative. Presently only recuperative type of reheating furnaces are in use.

Principles of Metal Rolling

Metal rolling is one of the most important manufacturing processes in the modern world. The large majority of all metal products produced today are subject to metal rolling at one point in their manufacture. Metal rolling is often the first step in creating raw metal forms. The ingot or continuous casting is hot rolled into a bloom or a slab, these are the basic structures for the creation of a wide range of manufactured forms. Blooms typically have a square cross section of greater than 6x6 inches. Slabs are rectangular and are usually greater than 10 inches in width and more than 1.5 inches in thickness. Rolling is most often, (particularly in the case of the conversion of an ingot or continuous casting), performed hot.

Most metal rolling operations are similar in that the work material is plastically deformed by compressive forces between two constantly spinning rolls. These forces act to reduce the thickness of the metal and affect its grain structure. The reduction in thickness can be measured by the difference in thickness before and after the reduction, this value is called the draft. In addition to reducing the thickness of the work, the rolls also act to feed the material as they spin in opposite directions to each other. Friction is therefore a necessary part of the rolling operation, but too much friction can be detrimental for a variety of reasons. It is essential that in a metal rolling process the level of friction between the rolls and work material is controlled, lubricants can help with this. A basic flat rolling operation is shown in figure:130, this manufacturing process is being used to reduce the thickness of a work piece.

During a metal rolling operation, the geometric shape of the work is changed but its volume remains essentially the same. The roll zone is the area over which the rolls act on the material, it is here that plastic deformation of the work occurs. An important factor in metal rolling is that due to the conservation of the volume of the material with the reduction in thickness, the metal exiting the roll zone will be moving faster than the metal entering the roll zone. The rolls themselves rotate at a constant speed, hence at some point in the roll zone the surface velocity of the rolls and that of the material are exactly the same. This is termed the no slip point. Before this point the rolls are moving faster than the material, after this point the material is moving faster than the rolls.

Packing of steel coils

The function of packaging is not simply only physical protection but also marketing, barrier protection, security, information, convenience and portion control. Packaging has become an integral part of manufacturing business today and therefore manufacturers have to make sure that they have the right machines that allow them to pack their goods in the right way to the market.

One of my old customer said that a steel coil mill made a very simple package of the goods, and when arrived, customer opened the package and found that the surface of coils are all wet, or even water droplets. Information on hot rolling mills and turn-key project

Induction bending is also referred to as hot rolling, but there are some differences between the two processes. Our range of hot rolling mills are extensively used for shaping large pieces of metal, such as slabs or billets. These pieces of metal are heated above their recrystallization temperature and then deformed between rollers to form thinner cross sections. The hot rolling produces thinner cross sections than cold rolling processes with the same number of stages. Different types of steel products

It is well known that steel products is widely used in many different areas, and there are various kinds of different types. Generally, depending on the cross sectional shape, the steel can be divided into four main categories of profiles, steel sheets, steel tubes, and metal products. Of course, every big category can own several different small categories, and the related steel prices is not the same. Most the processing of steel belongs to pressure processing, which can make steel produce plastic deformation. According to the processing temperature of steel, it can be divided into two kinds of cold rolled steel and hot rolled steel.


Steel is an iron-carbon alloy which contains carbon. The chemical composition of steel is so different, if the steel can only contain carbon steel known as carbon steel, in the actual production, in order to ensure its toughness and ductility, the carbon content is generally not more than 1.7%. And the main elements of steel except iron and carbon, it contains silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, etc. according to carbon content, it can be devided into three kinds of steel in China.
High carbon steel, generally carbon content is above 0.6%
Medium carbon steel, generally carbon content is 0.25-0.6%
Low carbon steel, carbon content is below 0.25%

Steel Plate
Steel plate is with molten steel pouring and pressed flat-shaped steel after cooling. According to different rolling ways, steel plate can be divided into hot-rolled and cold-rolled. What is cooling bed
